Adam Voshall, PhD

Postdoctoral Fellow

Adam joined the lab in September, 2020 as a postdoctoral fellow.  He received a PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2015.  His PhD research in Heriberto Cerutti's group focused on the development of computational tools to identify small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), in particular microRNAs (miRNAs), and their regulatory targets from RNA sequencing data in green algae.  Following his PhD, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Etsuko N. Moriyama's group at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for four years.  His work during this time focused on developing biologically realistic simulations of RNA sequencing to benchmark transcriptome assembly methods and led to the development of ConSemble, a novel consensus-based ensemble assembly method that can match the performance of genome-guided assemblies without the need for any external reference data. During this time, he also completed a MS in Computer Science under the supervision of Jitender S. Deogun, based on the transcriptome assembly work.
